Brent Minor Elected to National Board of Trustees of March of Dimes
WHITE PLAINS, N.Y., July 9, 2004 – Brent Minor, Vice President of LaSalle Bank of Chicago, has been elected to the national Board of Trustees of the March of Dimes, it was announced today.
March of Dimes trustees, who serve as volunteers, represent the public in governing the organization and advancing its mission to save babies from birth defects, infant mortality, and premature birth.
“We're very pleased that Mr. Minor is joining the March of Dimes because he shares our goal to improve the health of babies,'' said Dr. Jennifer L. Howse, President of the March of Dimes.
Mr. Minor has been a volunteer leader with the March of Dimes since 1980. In 1992, he was elected Chair of the National Office of Volunteers, which he served for three years. Mr. Minor has served as Chairman of WalkAmerica for Chicago. He is a member of the Boards of both the Illinois Chapter and the Chicago Division and Chair of the Nominating Committee. In 1991, Mr. Minor was the recipient of two distinguished March of Dimes awards: the First National Elaine Whitelaw Volunteer Service Award and the President's Award For Excellence. Mr. Minor currently serves as the National Office of Volunteers National At-Large Member and President's Society Liaison.
Mr. Minor has worked for LaSalle Bank ABN AMRO for more than 40 years. His most recent position is Vice President of Business Development. Mr. Minor is also an active member of the Greater State Street Council (GSSC) having served as Chairman and is currently the Vice Chairman, which manages, preserves and renovates the city's downtown area. In 1994, he was an honoree of the GSSC's Private Recognition Gala. He also serves as Commissioner of the State Street Commission and in July 2000, Mayor Richard Daley appointed him Chairman of the State Street Commission. Mr. Minor was recently honored for his years of service to the Chicago community when the City of Chicago dedicated the corner of State Street at Adams as “Brent Minor Way.'' He also serves as Vice Chair of the Board of Chicago Association for the Performing Arts.
Mr. Minor attended Glenville State College from 1957-1961 and the Institute of Financial Education in Chicago from 1962-1968. He and his wife, Eloise, have three children and five Grandchildren and reside in Mt. Prospect, Illinois.
Kenneth May Elected to National Board of Trustees of March of Dimes
WHITE PLAINS, N.Y., July 9, 2004 – Kenneth May, Senior Vice President of Federal Express Corporation, United States Operations, has been elected to the national Board of Trustees of the March of Dimes, it was announced today.
March of Dimes trustees, who serve as volunteers, represent the public in governing the organization and advancing its mission to save babies from birth defects, infant mortality, and premature birth.
“We're very pleased that Mr. May is joining the March of Dimes because he shares our goal to improve the health of babies,” said Dr. Jennifer L. Howse, President of the March of Dimes.
May began his career as a supervisor for United Parcel Service. He joined FedEx in 1982 and became a Senior Manager in 1986. In 1991, May was promoted to Managing Director of Puerto Rico and the Caribbean. In 1994, Mr. May became Managing Director of Global Operations Control & Coordination. Mr. May assumed his current status as Senior Vice President of FedEx in 1999.
Mr. May is a graduate of the University of Memphis and has an MBA from the University of Tennessee. Mr. May lives in Memphis, Tennessee with his wife, Tosha and daughter, Alexa. Alexa was born prematurely, and Mr. May and his wife have expressed the personal importance of the March of Dimes mission to his family.
Erica Farber Elected to National Board of Advisors of March of Dimes
WHITE PLAINS, N.Y., July 9, 2004 – Erica Farber, Publisher and Chief Executive Officer of Radio & Records, Inc., has been elected to the national Board of Advisors of the March of Dimes, it was announced today.
March of Dimes trustees, who serve as volunteers, represent the public in governing the organization and advancing its mission to save babies from birth defects, infant mortality, and premature birth.
“We're very pleased that Ms. Farber is joining the March of Dimes because she shares our goal to improve the health of babies,” said Dr. Jennifer L. Howse, President of the March of Dimes.
Ms. Farber currently serves as Chair of the National Board of Governors for the March of Dimes Radio AIR Awards. In 2000, she received an American Broadcast Pioneer Award from the Broadcasters' Foundation. The readers of Radio Ink Magazine consistently vote Ms. Farber one of “The Most Influential Women in Radio.” She currently serves on The Radio Hall of Fame Advisory committee and the Southern California Radio Advisory Group of the Museum of Television & Radio. Ms. Farber is also a member of Arbitron and the National Advisory Council of the National Broadcasting Society.
Prior to joining Radio & Records, Inc. in 1992, Ms. Farber worked at INTEREP for 12 years. Early in her career, Ms. Farber held positions at four radio stations in Los Angeles. In 1975, she was appointed General Sales Manager and General Manager of WROR-FM in Boston. In 1976, she served as vice president and General Manager of WXLO-FM in New York. Ms. Farber served as Executive Vice President of Sales & Marketing and was promoted to COO in 1994 before assuming her current position at Radio & Records, Inc.
David Smith Elected to National Board of Trustees of March of Dimes
WHITE PLAINS, N.Y., July 9, 2004 – David Smith, Chancellor of the Texas Tech University System, has been elected to the national Board of Trustees of the March of Dimes, it was announced today.
March of Dimes trustees, who serve as volunteers, represent the public in governing the organization and advancing its mission to save babies from birth defects, infant mortality, and premature birth.
“We're very pleased that Mr. Smith is joining the March of Dimes because he shares our goal to improve the health of babies,” said Dr. Jennifer L. Howse, President of the March of Dimes.
Mr. Smith has been a volunteer leader with the March of Dimes since 1994. In the early 90's, he used a $50, 000 March of Dimes grant to develop a door-to-door outreach program, Mano-a-Mano. The program encouraged women along the Texas-Mexico border to take folic acid. He has been active in WalkAmerica and a member of the President's Society. Mr. Smith currently serves as the Prematurity Campaign Chair for the State of Texas Chapter and is also on their Executive Committee.
Prior to joining Texas Tech University System in 1996, Mr. Smith served as the Commissioner of the Texas Department of Health. From 1989-92, he was Senior Vice President of Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas and CEO and Medical Director of Parkland's Community Oriented Primary Care Program. He was appointed Deputy Director of the US Department of Health & Human Services' Division in Washington, DC. Prior to his appointment, Mr. Smith served as Medical Director of the Brownsville Community Health Center in Texas. Mr. Smith served as President of the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center for six years before being appointed to Chancellor in 2002.
Mr. Smith holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Cornell University and a M.D., Board Certified Pediatrician, from University of Cincinnati. In 1996, he received the AMA's Dr. Nathan Davis Award for outstanding service as a career public servant at the state level. He and his wife, Dr. Donna Bacchi, have two children and reside in Texas.
Brenda Gaines Elected to National Board of Trustees of March of Dimes
WHITE PLAINS, N.Y., July 9, 2004 – Brenda Gaines, recently retired President and Chief Executive Officer of Diners Club North America, a division of Citigroup, has been elected to the national Board of Trustees of the March of Dimes, it was announced today.
March of Dimes trustees, who serve as volunteers, represent the public in governing the organization and advancing its mission to save babies from birth defects, infant mortality, and premature birth.
“We're very pleased that Ms. Gaines is joining the March of Dimes because she shares our goal to improve the health of babies,” said Dr. Jennifer L. Howse, President of the March of Dimes.
Before joining the corporate world, Ms. Gaines lead a career in government that included the position of Deputy General Administrator for the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). In 1983, she held the position of Chicago's Commissioner of Housing, and later served as Deputy Chief of Staff under Mayor Harold Washington's administration. Ms. Gaines joined Citibank in 1988 where she held a series of leadership positions, including Executive Vice President and Corporate Card Sales for Diners Club International.
Ms. Gaines holds an M.P.A. from Roosevelt University in Chicago. She received the Otto Wirth Award for Lifetime Achievement Alumni Award from Roosevelt University in 2000. Fortune Magazine named Ms. Gaines to its 50 Most Powerful Black Executives list in July 2002. Ms. Gaines serves as board member for various organizations such as Office Depot, Inc.; Citibank Canada and Diners Club International; World Business Chicago and the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation. She currently resides in New York.
