The Promise of Science: Research Annual Report 2001

In 2001 the March of Dimes supported $61.1 million in research grants aimed at preventing birth defects and infant mortality. This report discusses three important research issues:
  • Infections that threaten a healthy birth, including cytomegalovirus, toxoplasmosis, listeriosis and hookworm
  • Development of the central nervous system: Six stages of building a brain
  • Newborn screening tests: Past and present March of Dimes contributions
