Parents & Health Professionals Invited to Satellite/Webcast on Newborn Screening WHITE PLAINS, N.Y., AUGUST 8, 2002—Health care professionals, policy makers, parents, journalists, and others interested in improving infant health are invited to attend a live satellite and Webcast presentation about newborn screening sponsored by the March of Dimes and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)
“A New Era in Newborn Screening -- Saving Lives, Improving Outcomes” will be presented live via satellite and Webcast on Thursday, September 19, 2002, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Eastern time from the studios of the CDC. The broadcast will feature stories from four real families whose children's lives were saved from life-threatening diseases by newborn screening, early diagnosis, and effective management. Viewers will learn how these children have thrived through actions taken by informed parents working with medical care teams. The program will explore multiple areas of the newborn screening program in the United States, from past and current practices to working toward the development of a national agenda.
The goal of the broadcast is to improve recognition, detection, and diagnosis leading to early treatment and effective management of babies and children with inherited metabolic diseases, endocrine disorders, and blood disorders.
This program is designed for physicians, nurses, laboratorians, and other health care professionals serving newborns and their parents in physician offices, hospitals, clinics, and public health settings. It should also be of interest to the general public, parents, and policy makers.
CME Credit for Health Professionals Continuing Education Credit will be offered for a variety of professions, based on two hours of instruction. Participants can receive credit for up to 30 days for the live satellite broadcast and the live Webcast and up to three years for the archived Webcast, videotape and CD-ROM.
