CBS The Early Show Features March of Dimes WalkAmerica

White Plains, New York, April 4, 2002—March of Dimes National Ambassadors Justin and Dorenda Washington were interviewed by Ira Joe Fisher, weatherman on nationally-televised CBS The Early Show, to highlight WalkAmerica that takes place across the country this month.  Joining them in New York City were volunteers from March of Dimes national sponsors CIGNA, Kmart and the National Peanut Board.

Now in its 32nd year, WalkAmerica, the nation’s first and best-loved walking event, takes place in 1,200 communities in all 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico.  The goal for 2002 is $100 million.  WalkAmerica is the March of Dimes biggest fund-raiser.

The mission of the March of Dimes is to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects and infant mortality.  The March of Dimes carries out this mission through programs of research, community services, education and advocacy.

To register for WalkAmerica, call 1-800-525-WALK, or visit the March of Dimes online at www.marchofdimes.com/walkamerica.
