March of Dimes Receives $30,000 Gift From Olender Foundation

WASHINGTON, DEC. 11, 2001 - The March of Dimes received a grant in the amount of $30,000 from the Olender Foundation at its recent gala event honoring several of the nation’s most respected public servants and health and children’s advocates. The Olender Foundation, headed by Washington malpractice lawyer Jack Olender and his wife Lovell, held its 16th Annual Awards ceremony on December 5 at the Kennedy Center. Among this year's honorees were Dr. Richard Morton and Dr. Kathleen Morton, who received the Generous Heart 2002 Award. The gift to the March of Dimes was made in honor of the two physicians. Dr. Richard Morton is the former medical director of the March of Dimes.
Mr. Olender noted that all of this year's honorees are lawyers with the exception of the husband-and-wife physician team.
Richard and Kate Morton are exemplary Generous Hearts. The Mortons were both born and raised in England, but spent the majority of their professional lives providing medical care in the United States. Their diligent work in the areas of pediatrics and obstetrics has surely earned them a place in the history of American medicine,” he said.
Other Olender Foundation awards included Senator John Edwards (D-NC), Peacemaker 2002; James M. Nabrit, III, Advocate for Justice 2002; and Hon. Walter E. Washington, America's Role Model 2002.
