A March of Dimes Volunteer and national director of Youth Affiliates for Zeta Beta Sorority is a Winner of the first annual 'Woman's Day' Women Who Inspire Us' Awards

As a student at Dillard University in New Orleans, Jennie Harrison  noticed  that members of Zeta Phi Beta, a predominately African-American  sorority,  volunteered at a local orphanage. After joining the sorority, Jennie  knew  that helping children was for her.

Forty-five years later, Jennie has kept that focus. As a special  education teacher at Peekskill High School, Jennie works with learning  disabled students. She also advises a club that reaches out to honors  students who can't afford to go to college. Jennie encourages these  teens,  organizes college tours and helps students secure financial aid.

In addition, Jennie is chairperson of Zeta Phi Beta's local Stork  Nest Program, which is cosponsored by the March of Dimes. Through this  program Jennie has helped provide prenatal information and donations to  over 200 women in crisis.

Out of thousands nominated nationwide, Jennie Harrison, of Peekskill, NY is one of only ten women to receive this honor, which includes a $500 honorarium.
