Wynonna Judd Names 2001 Spokesperson for March of Dimes Blue Jeans for Babies

WHITE PLAINS, NY, June 18, 2001 – Grammy-winning recording artist Wynonna Judd has been named a national spokesperson for the 2001 March of Dimes Blue Jeans for Babies campaign, it was announced today.

Judd will help the March of Dimes, whose mission is to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects and infant mortality, boost awareness of its annual Blue Jeans for Babies campaign, which takes place in offices throughout the country.

"When you hear Wynonna talk about how thankful she is to have two healthy children, you know she is someone who not only handles a successful career but has an interest in helping insure a healthy birth for every baby," said Dr. Jennifer L. Howse, president of the March of Dimes. "We are delighted to be working with her."

"I feel fortunate to have a healthy daughter and son," said Judd. "By helping Blue Jeans for Babies, I believe I can encourage others to wear their denims for a good cause!"

Under the Blue Jeans for Babies campaign employees make a donation to the March of Dimes and receive a specially designed button/sticker from their employer that entitles them to wear jeans or casual clothes for a day. The designated Blue Jeans for Babies day for 2001 is Friday, November 2, although businesses may schedule their blue jeans day as they wish. Additional information is available by calling 1-800-853-2528 or at www.marchofdimes.com.

As lead vocalist in the hit duo The Judds, Wynonna shot to fame at age 18 and between 1984 and 1991 she and her mother Naomi ruled the popular charts and awards podiums. Her mother's hepatitis ended the duo's career, and at age 27, Wynonna embarked on a solo career that has earned her a dozen top 10 hits and more than nine million albums sold. With Naomi's illness in remission, The Judds reunited for the 36-city Power to Change tour to usher in the new millennium and thank all of the fans that have supported the family over the years. Following that brief departure from her solo career, Wynonna has returned to focus on her new music and is currently working on her sixth studio album expected out early in 2002 on Curb/Universal NY Records.

The March of Dimes is a national voluntary health agency whose mission is to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects and infant mortality. Founded in 1938, it funds programs of research, community services, education and advocacy to save babies.
