Mark Selcow Elected to National Board of Trustees of March of Dimes

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y., JUNE 18, 2001 – Mark Selcow, co-founder of BabyCenter.com, has been elected to the national Board of Trustees of the March of Dimes Birth Defects Foundation, it was announced today.

March of Dimes trustees, who serve as volunteers, represent the public in governing the Foundation and helping it realize its mission to prevent birth defects and infant mortality.

"I am committed to the mission of the March of Dimes," said Mr. Selcow. "Most of my career has been spent in the area of healthcare, and most recently consumer health. I started two companies in this area, BabyCenter and Consumer Health Interactive, both with an aim of using technology to have a beneficial impact on the health of children and families."

Mr. Selcow is a founder and general partner of Merced Partners, a firm that focuses on applying Internet technologies to traditional businesses. He worked in the biotechnology industry from 1989 to 1996 at Cetus Corporation and at Amgen. He founded BabyCenter, Inc., in late 1996 and was president until 2000. BabyCenter.com is the most highly used online resource by parents, reaching 1.8 million people each month and one-half of all pregnant women gathering information online. Mr. Selcow also founded Consumer Health Interactive and was president of that company.

A native of Hartford, Connecticut, Mr. Selcow holds a bachelor’s degree in English from Brown University and a master’s degree in business from Stanford University. He volunteers weekly as a tutor in a fifth-grade classroom and is a Learning for Life volunteer speaker on careers for inner-city high school students in the San Francisco Bay Area. He resides in San Francisco.

The March of Dimes is a national voluntary health agency whose mission is to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects and infant mortality. Founded in 1938, the March of Dimes funds programs of research, community services, education, and advocacy to save babies.
