New Pregnancy & Newborn Health Education Center Unveiled at March of Dimes
WHITE PLAINS, N.Y., OCTOBER 7, 2002 – A doctor-approved source for preconception, pregnancy and newborn health opens today at the March of Dimes with the launch of the non-profit's Pregnancy & Newborn Health Education Center. SM
“Here is the ideal place for parents to get the best information on pregnancy and newborn health. The Center is one more way that the March of Dimes can help make sure all babies are born healthy -- by giving their families the right advice from a trusted source,” says Dr. Jennifer L. Howse, president of the March of Dimes. “Pregnant women, new parents and others can access the Center by telephone, e-mail or by visiting the Web site.’’
The Call Center at 1-888-MODIMES (1-663-4637) is a toll-free phone service staffed by trained health information specialists who can answer questions on topics ranging from newborn screening to the signs of preterm labor. Information is offered in both English from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. (Eastern Time) and in Spanish from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (Eastern Time) Mondays through Fridays. Information specialists can also answer questions quickly and confidentially by e-mail at askus@marchofdimes.com.
The Online Center at www.marchofdimes.com features rich and credible content in areas such as preconception care and folic acid, pregnancy and nutrition, prenatal testing, exercise, pregnancy complications, bereavement and loss, and much more.
The Center also provides the award-winning magazine mama and a full line of health educational materials.
“Every pregnant woman wants answers to her questions and reassurance for her concerns. Books are an invaluable source, of course. But sometimes there’s nothing like hearing a human voice,’’ says Heidi E. Murkoff, co-author of the best-selling book What To Expect When You’re Expecting. “The Pregnancy & Newborn Education Center’s trained health information specialists will provide that comforting personal touch – either by phone or online. And since the information comes from the March of Dimes, you can be sure it’s up-to-date and accurate.’’
“The new Center will be an excellent resource that both nurses and parents will find helpful,” says Gail Kincaide, executive director, Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN).
“Once again, the March of Dimes provides a much-needed service to ensure the good health of women and children. We at ACOG look forward to recommending the new site to our patients,” says Ralph W. Hale, M.D., FACOG, executive vice president of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.
