35,000 Volunteers Walk to Save Babies in Houston

Houston, TX, April 28, 2003--Houston Astros Mascot Junction Jack joins March of Dimes WalkAmerica volunteers at the University of Houston in Texas as they walk to save babies and reduce the rate of prematurity in this country.  Some 35,000 volunteers turned out to raise funds to support research so that all babies are born healthy and on time.



Flying high, the March of Dimes WalkAmerica banner signals the starting line for some 35,000 volunteers at the University of Houston, Texas, who walked last Sunday to raise funds so that all babies are born healthy and on time.  The March of Dimes is a national voluntary agency whose mission is to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects and infant mortality while working to reduce the rate of babies born prematurely in the U.S.



Texas March of Dimes WalkAmerica corporate volunteers receive the state flag to commemorate their team's participation in WalkAmerica 2003 at the University of Houston.  WalkAmerica 2003, with a goal of raising $94 million to save babies and reduce the number of babies born too soon, took place in 1,100 communities over the weekend in 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico.
