March of Dimes Tops Other Non-Profits In World Wide Web Competition
WHITE PLAINS, N.Y., AUGUST 6, 2003 – The March of Dimes Prematurity Web site took home more top honors in the ‘Spring 2003 World Wide Web Health Awards’ than any other community/non-profit organization in the United States.
The March of Dimes launched its Prematurity Web site last January to support the start of its five-year, $75 million campaign to stem the rising rate of premature birth in this country. The national healthcare non-profit won silver awards in the three categories it entered: patient education information, health promotion/disease and injury prevention information, and miscellaneous/professional. By winning in all three categories, the March of Dimes site garnered 25 percent of all top awards given to non-profits.
The World Wide Web Health Awards is a semi-annual contest that recognizes the best health-related Web sites for consumers and professionals. The World Wide Health Awards are organized by the Health Information Resource Center, a national clearinghouse for consumer health information programs and materials. A panel of international health information and Internet experts judge the entries based on accuracy and success in reaching the targeted audience and overall quality.
