POSITION PURPOSE:
To participate in research on an issue in the field of perinatal bioethics. Summary of the topic: As the mortality rate for extremely low birth weight premature infants at gestational ages around the threshold of viability decreases and prognosis for future developmental outcome remains uncertain, should parents be permitted to withhold or withdraw aggressive intervention from 23 – 24 week gestation premature infants in the delivery room or neonatal intensive care? What substantive standards and procedural approaches might be appropriate to assist clinicians and families faced with such difficult decisions?
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
Research support. Conduct basic literature searches and collect information on the research topic. Some information may come from the internet; other information, through phone calls. Review the extant literature. Develop a structured argument to answer the question posted above. Prepare a draft manuscript.
Administrative support. Provide general administrative support for the project, including but not limited to filing and photocopying. Enter articles into database, such as EndNotes. Assist in organizing meetings, when needed.
Other duties as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Bioethics Major. Masters level student preferred but will consider Bachelor level student with significant course completed in Bioethics.
Ability to juggle multiple tasks. Strong communication skills.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office software, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
