  TITLE: Special Events Manager

REPORTS TO: Executive Director

LOCATION: Woodbury, NY

REASON FOR OPENING: Replacement

POSITION PURPOSE:
The Special Events Manager position is accountable for coordinating a variety of fundraising events within the chapter through volunteer committees; organizes, plans and implements existing events and develops new events.  The position may be accountable for the above in an assigned geographic area or segment of the chapter or for specific events without specific geographic territory.  The Special Events coordinator acts as liaison between MOD it’s volunteers, and the local community in which it serves by recruiting volunteer participation corporate participation, and sponsorship within that community.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Plans and implements special events as assigned to promote the mission of the March of Dimes.
  • Develop overall plan and implementation for all events
  • Recruit volunteer committee to plan and work on events; educates volunteers on the March of Dimes mission for the purpose of gaining and retaining their commitment.
  • Provides leadership, training and support to event committees to ensure success.
  • Serves as staff liaison between event committees, chapter and Executive Committee
  • Records and completes necessary paperwork and follow-up for future events
  • Solicits sponsorship for events to underwrite costs.
  • Procures in-kind donations, prizes, plaques, awards, printing for the purpose of lowering fundraising costs
  • Oversees logistics of events
  • Work with program staff and volunteers to ensure that every event contains program content.

 



QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
  • 5-8 years job related experience
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
  • Experience in fundraising, event planning corporate sponsorship recruitment, volunteer and staff management.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, problem solving, planning, implementation, organization, leadership, teambuilding and computer skills.
