TITLE: State Director
REPORTS TO: East Area Director
LOCATION: Atlanta, GA
REASON FOR OPENING: Replacement
POSITION PURPOSE:
The State Director is responsible for the day to day overall management of a chapter within a specific assigned geographical area and to act as a link between the national office and the chapter office in carrying out the programs and objective of the Foundation. Principle role and responsibilities include financial management, fund development, strategic planning, volunteer development, communications, program, public affairs, human resources, and infrastructure (operations). As such, the position serves as an executive leader, manager, trainer, recruiter, motivator of volunteers and staff in meeting those objectives.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Ensure double digit chapter growth in all areas (March for Babies, Special Events, and Annual Giving) as well as sustained profitability
- Develop, lead and manage staff and volunteers in carrying out the multifaceted work of the March of Dimes
- Ensure sound financial viability of the chapter’s day to day operations.
- Recruit, retain and develop staff and volunteers and develop chapter based goals and objectives and implement plans for same through staff and volunteer participation.
- Lead strategic fund development and financial development in keeping with chapter needs and in alignment with national strategic and organizational priorities.
- Act as staff liaison for board Chairman and selected internal committees and with external local community.
- Communicate Foundation’s mission and programs with staff, volunteers and community.
- Supervise staff responsible for development and delivery of programs.
- Maintain a presence with and make presentations to corporate leadership for purposes of fund development and volunteer recruitment and/or support.
- Work to achieve and maintain a proactive visible community image, assuring that the March of Dimes is recognized as a valued community agency.
- Provide leadership and presence to the chapter’s role in being the visible experts in Maternal Child Health for the state.
- Maintain sound relationships at equivalent levels within state and local community agencies. Lead the chapter to serve as a resource state and local community agencies on the needs of babies and mothers.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
- Not-for-profit experience; experience in fundraising with a minimum campaign over site of $4 million, 5-10 years of staff management and leadership development, volunteer recruitment, development and relationship building/ strategic and operational planning.
- Strong communication, problem solving, implementation, planning and organization skills.
