The March of Dimes has depended on the generosity of millions of people like you to help give all babies a healthy start. 		 

Get Involved

Volunteers are the driving force behind the foundation, giving generously of their time and talent to serve in a variety of ways.  Currently we also need the following volunteers:            

 

March for Babies: Volunteers are needed in communities across the state to sell sponsorship opportunities, recruit volunteers and new teams, and to plan and implement kick-off, rally and walk day activities.  Contact Melanie Mooney, Alabama State Director at mmooney@marchofdimes.com for opportunities in the Metro Birmingham, Tuscaloosa and other north central areas; contact Courtney Watson, Central Alabama Division Director at cwatson@marchofdimes.com for opportunities in the greater Montgomery/Auburn areas; contact Benita Hopkins, Mountain Lakes Division Director at bhopkins@marchofdimes.com for opportunities in the greater Huntsville/Shoals/Gadsden areas; contact Catherine North, Southwest Division Director at clnorth@marchofdimes.com for opportunities in the greater Mobile/Daphne/Fairhope areas; or contact Natalie "Cue" McCollister, Wiregrass Community Director at nmccollister@marchofdimes.com for opportunities in the greater Dothan area.              

Special Events: There are many opportunities available for involvement with the Signature Chefs Auctions (Birmingham and Mobile), Bikers for Babies (gateways are statewide - all ride to Talladega Superspeedway), Alabama Citizen of the Year Testimonial Dinners (Birmingham and Montgomery) and Blue Jeans for Babies (statewide).  Join one of the steering, revenue, auction or decorating committees or just help out on the day of the event.  Contact the Alabama Chapter Office at (205) 824-0103 to find out more information about our special events taking place around the state.            

Program Services: Seeking volunteers state-wide to coordinate outreach to mission families and to plan and implement activities for these families; to represent the March of Dimes at community events, such as health fairs; to maintain inventory and re-stock NICU Family Support Centers at hospitals; to assist with planning and implementation of Prematurity Awareness Day/Month events; and to assist with planning and logistics of professional and public health education initiatives. We need individuals with good organizational skills, good communication skills, and who enjoy working with others.  We also need individuals with maternal child health, public health, rural health, social work, or grant writing experience to assist with our professional committees and activities. Public Affairs: Seeking professionals state-wide to serve on our Public Affairs Committee.  Individuals with maternal child health, public health, social work, legislative, and/or advocacy experience needed to assist with advancing March of Dimes advocacy priorities in Alabama.  Volunteers must have a willingness to learn about the legislative/regulatory process in the state.  Activities include developing relationships with legislators and local elected officials, participating in legislative visits or meetings, and identifying issues and developing strategies to advance the chapter’s advocacy priorities.  Contact Robin A. Participate

Funds for March of Dimes research, education, advocacy and community programs are generated through fundraising events. Participants purchase tickets to dinners, awards programs or solicit donations from friends and associates for events like March for Babies, Bikers for Babies and Signature Chefs Auction.

Partner

Several businesses and organizations partner with the March of Dimes to help further our mission.  They participate in fundraising events and program activities that reach out to their local communities.  Sponsorship of March of Dimes events and programs promotes a positive corporate image, which supports marketing and sales goals.  When you partner with the March of Dimes, you're associating your name/product with an organization whose reputation, history and accomplishments stand alone.
