We are pleased to introduce to Alaska’s newest Ambassador family
Madelyn, Chloe, and Hannah Delaney were born too soon and too small. Madelyn weighed 1 pound 6 ounces when she was born a twin 15 weeks early. She spent 96 days in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). Sadly, Chloe, Madelyn's twin sister, did not survive the effects of such a premature birth. Only 11 months later, Madelyn’s younger sister, Hannah, was born 5 weeks early and spent 10 days in the NICU. But thanks to March of Dimes advances in the treatment of premature babies -- like surfactant therapy and specialized care in a NICU – Maddy and Hannah are now happy and playful at ages three and two.
Missy explains her feelings before Madelyn and Chloe were born: "As with any first pregnancy, you never expect to have a difficult time." She believes many other women feel the same way and wants to help people realize that prematurity is a very real problem. Missy and Brian hope to spare other parents and babies the tremendous loss they experienced.
The March of Dimes' vision is a day when no baby is born too soon or too small. You can help to fulfill this mission by raising needed funds for research, community service, education and advocacy. With your help, we can give all Alaskan babies a fighting chance. |
