Organization: Maricopa Health Foundation/Maricopa Medical Center Project Title: Internatal Care Demonstration Project
$35,000 - Women in the Phoenix area who have had a previous poor birth outcome (year 3 of a 3 year grant)
Description: A care coordinator will continue to facilitate the project, recruiting women who have had newborns admitted to the Maricopa Medical Center Level III NICU to enter into internatal care and provide support and encouragement so that they remain in care. Over 50 high-risk women have been under the care and supervision of the program doctor and have had their chronic conditions treated and closely watched. In addition, the recommendations to these participants to delay pregnancy at least 18 months has been followed and no pregnancies have occurred so far in the program.
Organization: International Rescue Committee Project Title: Group Prenatal Care for Refugee Women
$38,000 - Pregnant refugees
Description: Enhance prenatal care of refugees through a specifically designed group prenatal care model and provide culturally appropriate training to providers. Pregnant refugees from Somalia, Burundi, Burma and Iraq will participate in the program and birth outcomes will be tracked to see if improvements occur.
Organization : Teen Outreach Pregnancy Services Project Title: TOPS Teen Education Network
$15,000 - High risk teens in the Tucson area
Description: 250 high risk teenage girls will be given instruction about prevention of STI’s, pregnancy, and decision-making for healthy relationships. Pre and post tests to evaluate knowledge gain will be given.
