March of Dimes Arizona Chapter 2010 Grants
1 Organization: Spina Bifida Association of Arizona Project Title: Education & Culinary Training to Reduce Neural Tube Defects
Description: The project will enhance folic acid health literacy through providing culinary training to 500 Hispanic high school females in Maricopa County. There will be at least three interactions with each woman in the program (classroom presentation, culinary training, cookbook participation) which will reinforce that food choices can change their lives and their babies’ lives as well.

2 Organization: Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., Delta Gamma Zeta Chapter Project Title: Stork’s Nest
Description: Delta Gamma Zeta Chapter will establish a Stork’s Nest Program to serve as an incentive program for 150 pregnant women to seek prenatal care. This program will help encourage pregnant women in the South Phoenix area to seek early prenatal care and increase participation in educational programs, sponsored by South Phoenix Healthy Start, which promotes healthy pregnancy and prematurity awareness.

3 Organization: Advice & Aid Pregnancy Center, Kingman, AZ Project Title: Earn While You Learn Education and Training Material Upgrade
Description: The Advice and Aid Pregnancy Center will use the Earn While You Learn program as an instructional tool to teach 325 expectant mothers about health issues, child formation, and risk aversion. The Center wants to upgrade the material to a DVD format with a Spanish language capability.

4 Organization: Arizona Family Planning Council Project Title: Plan Now: Enhancing Reproductive Life Planning and Preconception Care in the Title X setting
Description: With funds awarded from the March of Dimes, the Arizona Family Planning Council will educate our Title X Network about incorporating reproductive life planning and preconception care into the broad range of family planning services they provide.

5 Organization: Catholic Healthcare West (CHW) Foundation – East Valley Project Title: Preconception/Interconception Class
Description: CHW, through Chandler Regional Hospital and Mercy Gilbert Hospital, would provide preconception and interconception health education classes to the East Valley community, including its underserved populations.
Race/ethnicity of the majority of individuals served: Hispanic $9,810.00 East Valley - Chandler and Gilbert, & surrounding areas (Tempe)

Note: March of Dimes funds Polio Epic and Polio Echo, polio support groups located in Phoenix and Tucson, each $1,500 annually, making the total 2010 grant line $59,680.00
