March of Dimes Arizona Chapter has approved nearly $100,000 in grants to Arizona programs, with a goal of improving birth outcomes for high risk women, and supporting education about genetic diseases.
2008 grant recipients include:
Maricopa Health Foundation/Maricopa Medical Center- $49,100 Project: "Internatal Care Demonstration Project" for women in the Phoenix area who have had previous poor birth outcomes.
American College of Nurse Midwives Four Corners Chapter -$20,000 Project: "Centering Pregnancy on the Navajo Nation" for pregnant Native American women and their families rceivng care from midwifery serves through the Indan Health Service in Northern Arizona.
St. Joseph's Foundation/St. Joseph's Hospital - $19,866 Project: "Centering Pregnancy at St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center" to train health care providers in a model of group prenatal care for low-income, high risk women.
Jewish Genetic Diseases Center - $5,000 Project: "Will Your Children be Healthy? Know the Risk" to support educational programs about Jewish genetic disorders and carrier status for the Jewish community of greater Phoenix.
