Free Folic Acid and Prematurity Awareness CD-Roms produced by Arizona Chapter now in use by healthcare professionals and students nationwide
Folic Acid and the Prevention of Neural Tube Birth Defects
Research has shown that about 70 percent of neural tube defects can be prevented when women of reproductive age consume appropriate amounts of folic acid, starting before they become pregnant, and through the first trimester of pregnancy.

This free educational CD-Rom, developed by perinatologist Dr. Jordan Perlow and produced by the March of Dimes Arizona Chapter, provides the background and understanding of the embryology, the epidemiology, and the supporting clinical research evidence on folic acid and neural tube defects.

Now in use nationwide, the training tool also addresses the disparity which exists in the incidence of neural tube defects among the Hispanic population. Hispanics are at much higher risk of having a baby born with a neural tube defect then other ethnicities.

Preterm Birth: Prematurity Campaign
Despite extensive efforts to identify and treat women with symptoms threatening preterm birth, still more than half a million babies are born prematurely each year, representing one preterm birth each and every minute.

Available to health care providers and instructors, this 45 minute presentation covers current and future potential treatment protocols for preterm labor, recent statistics,  and risk factors associated with preterm birth.

March of Dimes is determined to find answers that will reduce the rate of babies who are born too soon, and to educate all women of childbearing age about the importance of knowing the signs of preterm labor.
