Ritz Carlton Marina Del Rey
L.A.s Finest Chefs Join Hands, Recipes For The Health of Babies
March of Dimes 2008 Signature Chefs Auction: A Premier Dining Event for a Premier Cause
The 2008 March of Dimes Signature Chefs Auction, a premiere culinary event featuring Los Angeles finest chefs who prepare extraordinary signature dishes, paired with fantastic wines will be held today at the Ritz Carlton in Marina del Rey.
Chef Rock, winner of Fox Television’s 2007 Hell’s Kitchen, will be joined by over 20 of L.A.’s finest Chefs and wineries, and more than 300 of Los Angeles’ most prominent individuals who support March of Dimes efforts to give every baby a healthy start in life. Chef Rock and his wife Tamara lost their first child, who was still born. Their youngest daughter was born with a serious birth defect. The Chefs will contribute their signature dishes as well as an auction package to raise money for the vital work of the March of Dimes.
“We’re anticipating our most exciting evening yet,” said John Barret, Chair of the Greater Los Angeles Division March of Dimes Board of Directors. “If your appetite craves only the best food, come join your friends and neighbors, and help give all babies a healthy start, those born healthy and those who need help to survive and thrive.”
This year’s Signature Chefs Auction will showcase: Lead Chef Matthew Accarrino, Tom Colicchio's Craft; Seth Greenburg, Executive Chef, The Penthouse; Chef Vincente Mendoza, Il Fornaio; Chef/Owner Maria de Jesus Monterrubio, La Guelaguetza; Executive Chef Chad Minton, The Ritz Carlton, Marina Del Rey; Chef Alfonso Ramirez, Hacienda San Isidro; Executive Chef Alex Reznik, Café Was; Executive Chef Daniel Roberts, BALEENlosangeles; Chef/Owners Jon Shook & Vinny Dotolo, Chef/Owners, Animal Restaurant; Chef Paul Sidoti, Maggiano’s Little Italy; Chef Michael Reardon, One Pico, Shutters on the Beach.
Proceeds from Signature Chefs Auction will benefit the March of Dimes campaign to reduce the rate of premature births, birth defects, and other serious threats to babies’ health. Every year, more than 255,000 babies are born in Southern California but far too many come into the world too soon. Signature Chefs events have raised almost $100 million, including $15 million last year, for March of Dimes programs for research, community service, education and advocacy for babies since its conception in 1989. The 2008 Signature Chefs Auction is sponsored by Panera Bread, which creates bread rich in folic to urge women of child bearing age to consume more of the critical nutrient which helps prevent neural tube defects that continue to rise within babies.
Although March of Dimes is making great strides in treatment and care for premature infants, the underlying causes are still largely unknown. On a fiscal level, the annual medical costs associated with prematurity are currently estimated at $22 billion dollars. That’s why it is so important for local events like this to support the March of Dimes efforts to help babies, those born healthy and those who need help to survive and thrive.
