Second National Summit on Preconception Health and Health Care: Advancing the Health of Women and Infants Before, Between and Beyond Pregnancy

Purpose: The Second National Summit on Improving Preconception Health and Health Care focused on strategies for implementing the national recommendations published by CDC.
Conveners: The Summit was hosted by the Preconception Care Council of California, March of Dimes California Chapter, California Department of Public Health – Maternal, Child and Adolescent Health Division, Sutter Health, Kaiser Permanente, University of California at Berkeley, Alameda County Healthy Start Program, and the Los Angeles Preconception Care Project, in collaboration with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) and the CDC Preconception Care Initiative Steering Committee, which includes representatives from CDC, HRSA, the Association of Maternal and Child Health Programs (AMCHP), CityMatCH, the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), and the March of Dimes.
Audience: The Second National Summit on Improving Preconception Health and Health Care brought together leaders from public health, clinical medicine, and community-based organizations representing all areas of the country.
Content: The content of the Summit built upon the work of the CDC and the Select Panel on Preconception Care, as well as the experience from the Preconception Care Council of California and the First National Summit on Preconception Care. Summit attendees had many opportunities to cross-fertilize promising practices and research results. Future Summits: No additional Preonception Summits have been scheduled at this time. Should this situation change, information about any future Summits will be posted on this page.
