A Premier Dining Event for a Premier Cause
13-Sep-07
San Francisco, CA | September 10, 2007 – San Francisco’s leading chefs will assemble on Thursday, September 19 with their finest cuisine for the benefit of mothers and babies in our community. The March of Dimes Signature Chefs Auction, held at The Palace Hotel on Sept. 13 from 6 p.m. – 10 p.m., pays tribute to the culinary excellence of the top local chefs and caterers, who will present their signature dishes.

“We love to share our favorite dishes with the community, but more importantly, we know crucial it is to rally behind the March of Dimes,” said Butterfly Executive Chef Robert Lam. “I am here to do my part to help March of Dimes give every baby a healthy start.”

In addition to the delectable meal and vintage wines, guests will have the opportunity to bid on auction items and learn more about the March of Dimes work to ensure babies are born healthy.

Proceeds from Signature Chefs Auction will benefit the March of Dimes campaign to reduce the rate of premature births, birth defects, and other serious threats to babies’ health. Every day in the US, more than 1,300 babies are born too soon, some so small they have to fight for their lives. That’s why it is so important for local events like this to support the March of Dimes efforts to help babies be born healthy.

“We’re anticipating our most exciting event yet,” said. “The chefs and wineries have really come together to make this a special night for those who have joined us in support of March of Dimes,” said event organizer Keira Muller.

Joining the March of Dimes Chefs event this year are: Lark Creek Steak – Jeremy Bearman; Pres a Vi – Kelly Degala; Oola - Ola Fendert; Moose’s – Travis Flood; Kuleto’s – Bob Helstrom; Circa – Erik Hopfinger; Scott Howard – Scott Howard; Butterfly- Robert Lam; Ponzu Restaurant – Michelle Mah; Poggio – Peter McNee; RNM – Justine Minor; xyz – Paul Piscopo; Isa – Luke Sung; Mutsumi Takehara – The Slanted Door; Perbacco – Steffan Terje; the girl & the fig – John Toulze; Le Colonial – Joe Villanueva; Joe DiMaggio’s Italian Chophouse – Allen Rocco Vitti.

Guests sample wine from Acacia, Barefoot Vineyards, Beam Wine Estate, BV, Cline Cellars, Cosentino Winery, Don Sebastiani & Sons, Enzo Wines, Fess Parker Winery, Francis Ford Coppola Presents, Franciscan Winery/Icon Estates Wine, Grgich Hills Estate, McManis Family Vineyards, Muller Family Vineyard and Schweiger Vineyards.

At the event the Bracy Family will share how they were touched by premature birth. Kobe Bracy was born ten weeks premature, weighing only two and one-half pounds and measuring just 15 inches long. Because he was born too soon and too small, Kobe required a great deal of care, including surfactant therapy for his lungs and other treatments produced from research funded by the March of Dimes. He spent two months away from his family, in a neonatal intensive care unit at Sutter Medical Center; when he went home, he weighed less than four pounds and fit into the palm of his father’s hands.

Today, Kobe is five years old, plays baseball, goes to pre-school, loves to dance, and knows all about sports and cars. He is a smart, talkative, inquisitive, and a loving treasure to his parents. The Bracy’s story underscores both the success of and continuing need for the March of Dimes.

“This event offers a chance for our community to come together for a great time and to support an important cause,” said March of Dimes volunteer Lisa Charney. “And at the end of the night, we have the satisfaction of knowing that we’re playing a part in reaching a day when all babies are born healthy and full-term.”
