MACY’S “SHOP FOR A CAUSE” RAISES NEARLY $500,000 TO BENEFIT MOMS AND BABIES IN CALIFORNIA
Throughout, California, August 28, 2013
Macy’s eighth annual “Shop For A Cause” one-day shopping event has raised nearly $500,000 to help the March of Dimes give more babies in California a healthy start in life, it was announced today. Macy’s designated March of Dimes, the leading nonprofit organization for pregnancy and baby health, as its national beneficiary of all proceeds of sales of Shop For A Cause savings passes in-stores and on macys.com.
Programs for moms and babies in California that will benefit from the funds raised include:
· The hospital-based NICU Family Support® program, which provides much-needed information and comfort to families during the hospitalization of their newborn, during the transition home, and in the event of a newborn death.
· Becoming a Mom/Comenzando bien® - Our bilingual (English and Spanish) prenatal curriculum is designed to educate pregnant women in a supportive group setting. Nine sessions provide information on prenatal care, nutrition, stress, things to avoid during pregnancy, labor and birth, postpartum care and newborn care.
“March of Dimes NICU Family Support sets the standard for family-centered care, and our Comenzando bien curriculum is designed to help women have healthy pregnancies and babies,” says Karyn DeMartini, March of Dimes California Chapter State Director. “We’re so grateful to Macy’s for supporting these and other programs, which are so important to our California families.”
"Macy's continues to be inspired to give back and proud to offer our customers an easy way to make a positive difference in March of Dimes mission for stronger, healthier babies in communities across the country," said Martine Reardon, Macy's chief marketing officer.
