Richard D. Cordova, President and Chief Executive Officer of CHLA Named Los Angeles March for Babies Chair

Sheri Lunn, Director of Communications, March of Dimes, (818)539-2191, slunn@marchofdimes.com

Richard D. Cordova, President and Chief Executive Officer of CHLA joins national team of businessleaders to launch March for Babies 2012 fundraising campaign

    Los Angeles, CA, February 06, 2012 —

    - More than 10 percent of babies in Los Angeles will be born premature this year, and local business leader Richard Cordova is working with the March of Dimes to change that.

Cordova, who is President and CEO of Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, knows how important the March of Dimes mission is. As the father of three daughters, he eagerly took on the role to raise awareness and important funding to provide for babies who are born premature or with birth defects. Children’s Hospital Los Angeles has signed on to raise $225,000 in new revenue for March of Dimes.

March for Babies, the largest fundraiser for the March of Dimes, helps fund lifesaving research and educational programs aimed at helping moms have healthy babies. Last year, the Los Angeles event raised more than $2.6 million – this year, March for Babies Chair Richard Cordova hopes to bring in even more by focusing on new partners and helping to raise awareness in the Greater Los Angeles area.

“As a business leader, this campaign gives me a unique opportunity to help the community I love. And as a father and grandfather, I can’t think of a more important cause than our babies,” said Cordova. “The Children’s Hospital Los Angeles team is extremely proud to partner with the incredible March of Dimes community.  As this year’s March for Babies Los Angeles Chair, I am honored to give back to an organization that does so much to make a difference in the lives of babies.”

Los Angeles residents can sign up today and start a team with co-workers, family, or friends. Last year, more than 12,000 people attended the event, which this year will be held on Saturday, April 28, 2012 in Exposition Park.  The starting line is directly in front of the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles and the March will pass the Los Angeles Science Center and the L.A. Coliseum as the thousands of participants make their way down Figueroa Blvd. in support of stronger, healthier babies.

“We’re so excited to have Richard Cordova and Children’s Hospital Los Angeles on board to help us at a local level,” said Karyn DeMartini, State Director for the California Chapter of March of Dimes.  “His passion for the cause and commitment to helping our babies will be a huge driving factor in the success of our event this year. We are grateful for the time and support Mr. Cordova has been able to lend us.”
