March of Dimes to Host Ceremony to "Light the Night" in Pink and Blue for Prematurity Awareness

WHAT 
A special ceremony to celebrate the first night of the clock tower of the Denver City & County Building being
lit pink and blue. The tower will be lit during the entire month of April.

WHERE 
Denver City & County Building at 1437 Bannock Street (Between Colfax Avenue and 14th Street on Bannock
Street).

WHY 
To help the March of Dimes ‘light the night’ in honor of premature birth. Pink and blue are the colors of the
Prematurity cause. The lighted tower is meant to raise awareness and encourage people to learn about premature
birth and steps to take for healthy pregnancy.

The month long awareness initiative culminates on Saturday, April 29, 2006, at Civic Center Park, where the March of Dimes will host WalkAmerica, its largest annual fundraising event.

PHOTO/VIDEO OPPORTUNITY
**The ceremony will feature: Candice, Randy, Erica and Alicia Reese, the March of Dimes 2006 Denver Ambassador Family; and, Jennifer Zeppelin, a March of Dimes volunteer and KCNC-TV Channel 4 meteorologist.
**In attendance will be a crowd of over 50, comprised of March of Dimes mission families and other supporters. Each will get a pink or blue glow stick—a piece of the light to take home with them. 

SOME FACTS AND FIGURES
Most Coloradans don’t know how common, serious and costly premature birth is:
**It affects one in eight babies. 
**It’s increased 30 percent since 1981.
**More than half the time its causes aren’t know.
**It’s the leading killer of newborn babies and the leading cause of disability for babies who survive.
**It costs the nation’s healthcare system nearly $16 billion each year.
