Farmers Insurance Group Achieves Record March of Dimes Fundraising
02-Jul-07
Company Makes History by Raising $2.9 Million Nationwide and $107,000 in Colorado in a Single Day

DENVER, Colo. / Farmers Insurance Group set out to make March of Dimes history on Thursday, June 7 by raising $2 million in one day for the charitable organization (a feat never attempted or achieved). As it turns out, the company went above and beyond this already ambitious goal, raising $2.9 million nationwide. In Colorado, the Farmers fundraising goal ($104,000) too was exceeded, with $107,000 in donations collected.

Called “Be a Hero for Babies Day,” the effort sought to raise funds for March of Dimes healthy-baby programs of research, community services, education and advocacy. Farmers encouraged its agents, customers and the general public to participate in the special initiative. It matched the first $250,000 in public donations.

“We’re extremely proud of our friends at Farmers, not just for undertaking this project but for surpassing their objectives,” said Shelly Goodchild, state director of the March of Dimes Colorado chapter. “We congratulate and thank everyone who made Be a Hero for Babies Day such a success.”

This was the second annual Be a Hero for Babies Day. Last year, the initiative raised $90,000 in Colorado, part of a national $1.4 million total.

A national nonprofit health organization founded in 1938, the March of Dimes is dedicated to improving the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality. In Colorado, the March of Dimes currently funds $1.8 million in programs. More information is available at marchofdimes.com/colorado.
