| DENVER, Colo., Jan. 18, 2006/The March of Dimes today announced the winners of its 2005 Denver-area volunteer and sponsor awards. Their accomplishments will be celebrated tonight at a reception at the governor’s mansion co-hosted by Colorado Lieutenant Governor Jane Norton.
Those to be honored by the March of Dimes include outstanding first-year volunteers Jeremy Brady (Metro Brokers), Mary Davis (Jazzercise) and Randy Reese (United Power). Outstanding committee members are Caleb Allen (RK Mechanical) and April Montgomery (Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment). Ann Wilcox (Exempla Saint Joseph Hospital) is outstanding committee chair. Outstanding board member is Barbara Hughes (Exempla Certified Nurse Midwives at Saint Joseph Hospital). Volunteer of the year is Ron Gibbs, MD (University of Colorado Health Sciences Center). Sponsors to be honored for outstanding achievement include the Daily Camera (media partner), Exempla Saint Joseph Hospital (gold-level corporate partner) and Kmart (platinum-level corporate partner).
Award winners were nominated and selected by fellow volunteers and March of Dimes board and staff members.
Founded in 1938, the March of Dimes is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality. To achieve its mission, the March of Dimes funds research, education, community services and advocacy. Currently in Colorado, the March of Dimes funds nearly $1.4 million in healthy-baby programs.
