| East Hartford, CT —The March of Dimes Connecticut Chapter is pleased to announce that David Fusco, Vice President of Commercial Accounts for Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield’s Connecticut operations, will serve as revenue chair for Greater New Haven WalkAmerica. The involvement of local leaders of the highest caliber across the nation is a key element in the continuing strength and appeal of WalkAmerica, the walk that saves babies by fighting premature birth.
Premature birth, affecting one in eight babies born in the U. S. today, is the leading cause of infant death and a major cause of many lifelong disabilities. The rate of premature birth has increased 27 percent since 1981. In an average week in Connecticut, 80 babies are born preterm.
Greater New Haven WalkAmerica will take place on Sunday, April 25 at Lighthouse Point Park. For more information call 1-800-446-WALK or visit walkamerica.org.
“I invite you to join me in WalkAmerica and help save babies from premature birth, said Fusco. “In many cases we don’t know why prematurity happens. Until we have more answers, anyone’s baby could be next. Let’s make a difference in the lives of children—our own, our neighbors’, our co-workers’. Let’s do it by coming out to New Haven for WalkAmerica.”
As revenue chair, Fusco will be actively recruiting new corporate teams, sponsors and volunteers to participate in WalkAmerica. Fusco’s volunteer commitment to the community includes serving on the boards of the Greater New Haven Chamber of Commerce, Prevent Blindness Connecticut, Community Health Charities, and the Durham Lions Club. He is a graduate of Leadership Greater New Haven, and was named by New Haven Business Times as a “Forty Under 40” honoree for 1998.
WalkAmerica is made possible by the generous support of both walkers and sponsors. The March of Dimes thanks Greater New Haven presenting sponsor Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield and media sponsors News/Talk 960 WELI and KC 101.3. National WalkAmerica sponsors are Kmart, CIGNA, Famous Footwear, and Discovery Health Channel. Connecticut statewide sponsors are CIGNA, Bob’s Discount Furniture and NBC30 Connecticut News.
