| Jewett City, CT, February 2, 2004 - The March of Dimes Connecticut Chapter has awarded a grant to the Eastern Area Health Education Center to support Assessing and Caring for Women with Ante Partum Depression. This program is aimed at underserved maternal and child health needs in Connecticut. The goal of the program is to improve the skills of health care providers to assess and clinically manage prenatal risk associated with pregnancy-related depression, which has been linked to fetal growth retardation, premature delivery and increased likelihood of admission into the Neonatal Care Delivery.
Health care providers at eight Connecticut hospitals will participate in health care grand rounds training projects throughout the year. Hospitals participating include Griffin Hospital (Derby), Stamford Hospital, Lawrence & Memorial Hospital (New London), Windham Community Hospital, Charlotte Hungerford Hospital (Torrington), Hartford Hospital, New Britain General Hospital and Middlesex Hospital (Middletown).
This grant is one of many that the March of Dimes awards in pursuit of its mission to prevent birth defects and infant mortality.
The Eastern Area Health Education Center’s mission is to improve healthcare through education and access. In recent years, Eastern AHEC has sponsored numerous workshops, seminars, lectures and conferences for health providers as well as engaging in collaborative efforts with community organizations throughout Connecticut.
