Local Stylists Offer to “Beautify for Babies”
09-Aug-04
Old Saybrook, CT Every year in September Bill Dickey and his wife Lori of Silhouettes in Old Saybrook hear the roar of hundreds of motorcycles as they pass through town.  On September 12, they will join the crowd and ride along with 1,500 bikers in the 12th annual March of Dimes RIDE.

Normally closed on Mondays, Bill and Lori, owner of Silhouettes, located at 717 Boston Post Road, will open the salon on Monday, August 30 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Stylists Alex, Darlene and Carolyn will donate the day’s proceeds to the March of Dimes mission of saving babies lives.

“We see many families in the community that are clearly affected by the March of Dimes mission,” said Bill.  “Anything that we can do to help fight birth defects and prematurity we will gladly do.”

Motorcycle riders from across Connecticut will gather on Sunday, September 12th as Gengras Harley-Davidson/Buell presents the March of Dimes 12th annual RIDE.  The RIDE will begin at the Middletown Elks Lodge (70 Maynard Road), where participants can enjoy a cash breakfast.  Registration for the event is 9:30-11:00 a.m., and the first group of riders leaves Middletown at 11:20 a.m.   Group two will leave at 11:40 a.m.  Both riders and passengers must each collect a minimum of $25 to RIDE.

Dee Snider of Twisted Sister fame, who will serve as the Grand Marshall of the event for the fourth consecutive year, will be on hand to greet the crowd and kick off the RIDE.

Following a 40-mile RIDE through the Connecticut River Valley, riders can kick back at the post-RIDE shoreline BBQ, hosted by the Westbrook Elks Lodge.  Participants can purchase raffle tickets for a chance to win some exciting prizes and enjoy music by Lonesome Dave, food, fun and festivities.

For more information regarding the RIDE, please call Allison at the March of Dimes at 1-800-446-9255, email abeckom@marchofdimes.com or visit www.marchofdimes.com/connecticut.

The March of Dimes thanks Gengras Harley-Davidson/Buell, Connecticut’s WB20, The Rock 106.9 WCCC, Hartford Advocate, Full Throttle Magazine, Dee Snider and the American Motorcycle Association for their support.
