Local Stylists Offer to “Beautify for Babies”
01-Aug-05
Old Saybrook, CT – On Monday, August 15, the staff of Silhouettes in Old Saybrook, with owners Bill and Lori Dickey, will open its doors for the 2nd annual “Beauty for Babies Day” to benefit the March of Dimes 13th annual Ride event.

Normally closed on Mondays, Silhouettes, located at 717 Boston Post Road, will be open on Monday, August 15 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Stylists Lori, Alex, Darlene and Carolyn will donate the day’s proceeds to the March of Dimes mission of saving babies lives.

“Last year this day raised $1,700 in support of a cause that is near and dear to our hearts, saving babies,” said Bill.  “Anything that we can do to help fight birth defects and prematurity we will gladly do.  And the community never fails to respond generously.”

Silhouettes will also be holding a raffle to benefit the March of Dimes from now through Friday, August 26.  Tickets are $5 each and can be purchased at Silhouettes and Homeworks.  Prizes include a All-Clad Cookware set courtesy of Homeworks, a $250 gift certificate to Shagbark Lumber, a $75 gift certificate to Silhouettes and a $50 gift certificate to Bowerbird.

Bill and Lori are participants in the March of Dimes annual motorcycle event.  This year’s event will take place on Sunday, August 28th as Gengras Harley-Davidson/Buell presents the March of Dimes 13th annual RIDE.  The RIDE will begin at the Middletown Elks Lodge (70 Maynard Road) and end at the Westbrook Elks Lodge.  Registration for the event is 9:30-10:45 a.m., and the ride will begin at 11 a.m.  Both riders and passengers must each collect a minimum of $25 to RIDE.  The ride will be held rain or shine and all motorcycles are welcome.  All proceeds benefit the March of Dimes in support of its mission, to improve the lives of babies by preventing birth defects, premature births and infant mortality.

Dee Snider of Twisted Sister fame will serve as the Grand Marshall of the event for the fifth consecutive year.  Following a 40-mile RIDE through the Connecticut River Valley, a post-RIDE shoreline BBQ will be hosted by the Westbrook Elks Lodge.  Vendor sales, live music by Shovelhead, lunch, pins and raffles will await the riders.  The BBQ is from 12-2 p.m.

For more information regarding the RIDE, please contact Melenie Orendorf at the March of Dimes at 860-812-0080 x. 310, morendorf@marchofdimes.com or visit www.marchofdimes.com/connecticut.
