| Middletown, CT –Motorcycle enthusiasts revved up their engines on Sunday, August 28 to help save babies lives across Connecticut and raised over $110,000 in support of the March of Dimes Connecticut Chapter and its mission to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality.
More than 2,300 riders came out to Sunday’s event, the March of Dimes 13th annual RIDE presented by Gengras Harley-Davidson/Buell. Participants were led on the 40 mile ride by Dee Snider of Twisted Sister fame for the 5th consecutive year and by John Carroll of Fox 61.
Residents lined the roads to cheer on the bikes as they passed through shoreline towns on Route 154.
After the RIDE, participants gathered for a shoreline barbecue hosted by the Westbrook Elks, featuring live entertainment by Shovelhead.
March of Dimes Ambassador April Boccasile of Suffield thanked the crowd for caring and helping to save babies. The Boccasile’s daughter, Isabella, was born more than three months too soon and weighed only 1 pound 12 ounces. She spent 13 ½ weeks in a neonatal intensive care unit. Today, she’s a healthy and happy four-year old.
The March of Dimes thanks the following partners for helping to make the 12th annual RIDE a huge success: presenting sponsor Gengras Harley-Davidson/Buell, Connecticut’s WB20, The Rock 106.9 WCCC, Full Throttle Magazine New York/New England and the Hartford Advocate. March of Dimes RIDE is sponsored nationally by Kawasaki.
