| The March of Dimes today announced that Jerome Berkman, partner in the Stamford office of Day, Berry & Howard LLP, a leading full service law firm with offices in Boston, New York, Connecticut and Washington D.C, has been chosen as the 2006 recipient of the March of Dimes Real Estate Award for Fairfield County. Berkman accepted this honor at the March of Dimes Real Estate Award Breakfast at the Westin Hotel in Stamford, CT, on December 14, 2006. Over 750 people were in attendance.
The March of Dimes Real Estate Award is presented to outstanding individuals or companies whose commercial real estate activities have significantly enhanced the corporate community. Jerry Berkman, aveteran in the area of commercial real estate for more than 30 years, has represented the developer of thousands of units of multifamily rental housing in the Northeast and the landlord or tenant in hundreds of commercial leases covering several million square feet of space. His areas of practice include real estate development, commercial leasing, sales and acquisitions and real estate finance.
“We are very proud to recognize Jerry Berkman as a recipient of the 2006 March of Dimes Real Estate Award,” said Ed Tonnessen, committee chair of the Real Estate Award Breakfast. “Jerry has built a successful career worthy of sincere respect and admiration and we are extremely proud to recognize him for his substantial influence in the real estate community.”
The March of Dimes Real Estate Award Breakfast is considered by many to be the premiere event of the Fairfield County real estate industry. This event also serves as the March of Dimes’ most successful fundraiser year after year. In the last ten years, the Real Estate Award Breakfast has raised $2 million for the March of Dimes, whose mission is to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature births and infant mortality.
Berkman’s community involvement includes serving as the president and director of the Boys & Girls Club of Stamford and as the vice president and director of the Jewish Community Endowment Foundation of Stamford. He is also very involved in the Stamford Center for the Arts. Currently, Berkman lives in Stamford, Connecticut with his wife.
