The March of Dimes Florida Chapter has awarded community grants across the state that will address unmet maternal and child health needs. The grants will help community agencies address significant maternal and child health issues such as access to prenatal care, education for new moms, and other health needs that are of concern in our community.
“Here in Florida we found that we could help mothers and babies by supporting efforts of community organizations to reach out to high-risk moms to help increase their chances to have a healthier baby,” said Valerie Browne-Krimsley, RN, Ph.D., March of Dimes Program Services Committee Chair. “We are grateful that our successful fundraising efforts, such as March for Babies, make it possible for us to support new efforts to help more babies to be born healthy in Florida, she said.
Community awards are small grants of $3,000 or less, and are one way the March of Dimes pursues its mission of preventing birth defects and infant mortality. Twenty-four awards were made for 2010 in a total amount of $53,400.
