More than 200,000 babies are born in Florida every year, and the March of Dimes Florida Chapter is here to help them have healthier births.
Although we have made progress in infant mortality rates over the past decade, we still lose too many babies in Florida before their first birthdays.
Rates for infant death, prematurity, and low birth weight are higher in our state for babies born to African American mothers than for babies born to white mothers. Premature birth affects 17.5% of African American mothers in Florida, compared to 11.3% of white mothers. One of our goals is to eliminate racial and ethnic disparities in birth outcomes. |
