| (ATLANTA, GA)— Hundreds of representatives from Atlanta’s top companies headed to Turner Field on June 14 for the annual WalkAmerica Appreciation Luncheon where they received a much-deserved thank you from the March of Dimes for their fundraising efforts during the WalkAmerica 2007 campaign. The WalkAmerica Appreciation Luncheon recognized top performing teams such as Publix Super Markets, Kaiser Permanente, AirTran Airways, Ted’s Montana Grill, Northside Hospital and many more!
“Thanks to the efforts of these companies and individuals we have experienced our most successful WalkAmerica fundraising campaign to date for the Greater Metro Atlanta area,” said Brian Ziegler, State Director, March of Dimes Georgia Chapter. “The WalkAmerica 2007 campaign has raised more than $4 million dollars to support the March of Dimes mission of preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality.”
A special March of Dimes Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to Bob Moore, Atlanta Division President for Publix Super Markets. During his time at Publix Super Markets, Bob has led his employees in raising nearly $8 million for March of Dimes and they have been the number one team in Georgia for 11 consecutive years. Atlanta City Council President Lisa Borders also presented Bob the President’s Award for his contributions to the City of Atlanta.
Since 1970 WalkAmerica teams have raised more than $1.7 billion to give babies a healthy start. Thanks to WalkAmerica, the March of Dimes conducts top-level research into causes and preventions of premature birth and birth defects. The March of Dimes also brings information and emotional support to families who have had a premature or sick baby who is being treated in a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU).
