| ATLANTA, GA – August 13, 2007 – March of Dimes has named Mark Gibson as state director for the Georgia Chapter. Overseeing all of the chapter’s functional areas including fundraising, staffing, programming, public affairs and communications, Mark is replacing Brian Ziegler, who is joining the March of Dimes Southern Regional office as Regional Director of Revenue Projects. March of Dimes looks forward to Mark transitioning into his role as the Georgia Chapter’s State Director immediately.
With an extensive background in the non-profit community, Mark joined the March of Dimes Georgia Chapter in August of 2006 as the State Director of Development. Mark’s non-profit career began with the American Heart Association in 1993 as a Regional Director. Serving in various roles throughout the organization, Mr. Gibson spent more than ten years at the American Heart Association, most recently serving as a Senior Vice President for Field Services.
A native Georgian, Mark was born in Columbus and grew up in Meriwether County, the home of Warm Springs and the birthplace of March of Dimes. Mark’s ties with the March of Dimes began at a young age with his father, David Randall Gibson, as a now retired long-time employee of the Warms Springs Roosevelt Rehabilitation Center. The center, located in Meriwether County, is a comprehensive, state-managed rehab facility specializing in long term acute care. Franklin Delano Roosevelt founded Roosevelt Warm Springs in 1927 to help rehabilitate victims of polio and then in 1938 began the March of Dimes organization in an effort to eradicate polio completely. Mark’s brother, Randy Gibson is currently employed as a counselor at Warm Springs demonstrating that the mission of the March of Dimes resonates throughout the entire Gibson family.
Not only does Mark dedicate his professional time to community service but is also very involved on a personal level, too. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Southern Conservation Trust, is a volunteer for the Peachtree City Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) and is an active member of the Peachtree City United Methodist Church.
Mark has a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration/Marketing from Georgia Southwestern State University.
