Shamrock Run
City Market

Thousands of visitors from around the world travel to Savannah to witness the city’s traditions and spirit for St. Patrick’s Day week.  Kicking off the festivities with a bang every year is the March of Dimes 5K Shamrock Run and Fitness Walk. On Friday, March 6, 2009,  green means go when more than a thousand runners will take to the streets of Savannah for the Shamrock Run to raise money for the March of Dimes mission of preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality.

Established in 1994, the March of Dimes 5K Shamrock Run & Fitness Walk starts in downtown Savannah’s historic City Market.  Featuring a quarter mile kids run, 5K run and a fitness walk; this event has something for everyone.  Music, after-race refreshments, a “Wearing O’ the Green” costume contest and the winner’s medal presentations add to the party atmosphere.  Participants will run with timing chips attached to their shoes which will provide fast and accurate computerized race results.
