2009 Community Grant Winners
2009 Georgia Chapter Community Grants

The March of Dimes Georgia Chapter will have $220,300 available for grants/awards in 2009. (This has been changed due to reduction in Grant Line) Of the proposals received, the program services committee is recommending 6 projects ( now 4) for funding ($217,333).  In addition, the program services committee would like to use the remaining $2,967 and $12,557 of professional fees to fund Power of Purpose Ministries to pilot Heritage Child ($15,524).

Brunswick, GA Embarazo Saludable will impact the lives of 2,000 participants by empowering them to care for their unborn children with suitable affordable prenatal care and appropriate self-care.  Through education and support, they will become better informed consumers of medical services and gain an understanding of how to have a healthier pregnancy, therefore give birth to a healthier baby.  $40,000

 Baby LUV - Lowndes Unique Victories:  The Baby LUV project will reduce the rate of poor birth outcomes for 120/yr high-risk African-American women enrolled in the Perinatal Case Management Program at Lowndes County Board of Health. $50,000

Year 1 of 3 Multi Year Grant
Albany, GA Due What’s Best:  A three year project aimed to create an OB public-private service delivery model which will expand access to early prenatal care and ancillary public health services, and provide education and support to low-income rural African-American women.  Public Health will pilot CenteringPregnancy® through this proposal.  $50,000
