25-Jan-05

The March of Dimes Georgia Chapter Announces New State Board Chair and Metro Atlanta WalkAmerica Chair

Jeffrey Fisher, CFO of Delta Connection, and Carolyn Johnson, VP of Health Care Operations of Kaiser Permanente, Accept March of Dimes Volunteer Leadership Positions

ATLANTA, GA - January 25, 2005 - The March of Dimes announced today that Chief Financial Officer of Delta Connection, Inc. Jeffrey T. Fisher and Vice President of Health Care Operations of Kaiser Permanente Carolyn Johnson have accepted prominent volunteer leadership roles for the Georgia Chapter.

Long-term supporter of the Georgia Chapter of the March of Dimes, Jeffrey T. Fisher, Chief Financial Officer of Delta Connection, Inc., will serve as the 2005 State Chairman for the Georgia Board of Directors. He has served on the State Board from more than 5 years, first as a General Member and then as State Treasurer. In 2004, Fisher served as the Metro Atlanta WalkAmerica Chair and helped attain a 10% year over year increase. Fisher has made a 3-year commitment to his new Board Chairman position. Fisher's predecessor, George McKerrow, Jr., served as the State Chairman for the Georgia Board for the last 3 years and will continue to serve as the Chair Emeritus.

"As Metro Atlanta WalkAmerica Chair in 2004, I was able to see firsthand the impact the March of Dimes has on improving the health of babies," says Fisher. "Working with the exceptional staff and so many wonderful volunteers, we were able to accomplish some extraordinary results last year, and I’m honored by the opportunity to expand my involvement with the board of this fine organization."

Vice President of Health Care Operations for Kaiser Permanente of Georgia Carolyn Johnson has also accepted a prominent volunteer role for the March of Dimes Georgia Chapter. Johnson has volunteered to serve as the 2005 Metro Atlanta WalkAmerica Chair. Johnson has more than 20 years of health experience and has been a strong supporter of the March of Dimes mission. Johnson has served as her company’s leadership chair for its annual WalkAmerica fundraising campaign for the past four years, recruiting fellow employees to participate in the April event, and making sure the Kaiser Permanente team, more than 400 strong, consistently ranks among the best.

"Being a preemie myself, I can understand how the March of Dimes fight against prematurity saves lives and reduces serious health problems" says Carolyn Johnson. "WalkAmerica is a wonderful event and I am proud to be a part of it."

Each year WalkAmerica brings together hundreds of thousands of compassionate supporters who believe that their personal support will make a difference in babies' lives. The upcoming 2005 metro Atlanta WalkAmerica events will take place on Saturday, Apr.16 and Saturday, Apr. 30. In its 35th year, participants are declaring that WalkAmerica is the best and most loved walking event of the nation. Ten WalkAmerica events are scheduled to take place throughout Metro Atlanta. The walks will occur in Downtown Atlanta, Coweta County, East Metro, Fayette County, Henry County, North Fulton County, Rockdale/Newton Counties, South Metro, Cobb County and Gwinnett County.

The country’s oldest walking event, and the March of Dimes’ largest fund-raiser, WalkAmerica supports research and programs that help fight threats to the health of the 470,000 babies in the U.S. who are born too soon every year. Since its beginning 35 years ago, WalkAmerica has raised more than $1 billion to help give babies a fighting chance and takes place on the last weekend in April in nearly 1,500 locations across the nation.
