Working to improve maternal health outcomes in the US
In 2024, March of Dimes welcomed GoldBug, a leading brand in baby and young children's accessories, as a national partner of our It Starts With Mom maternal health education campaign. Our partnership launches in tandem with GoldBug's collaboration with March of Dimes' celebrity advocate Allyson Felix, Olympic Track & Field gold medalist and mom-of-two.
GoldBug, with its mission to make life easier and more enjoyable for families, is passionate about supporting moms and babies and helping improve maternal health outcomes in the US. In 2023, they became the first business to fully fund guaranteed income pilot payments with the launch of its Healthy Beginnings Project, a program that provides new moms living in poverty with unrestricted cash during pregnancy and the first year of their baby's life.
GoldBug announced its GoldBug x Allyson Felix collaboration also in 2024, centered not only on providing products for families, but on raising awareness about the maternal health crisis in the US. Today, the number of women who die each year during childbirth has almost doubled over the past two decades, with Black women being three times more likely to die during childbirth than White women. To address these unacceptable realities, GoldBug joined forces with Felix to sponsor It Starts With Mom to help protect the health of moms by supporting the education and resources March of Dimes provides through the campaign.
Felix joined March of Dimes in 2020 as a Celebrity Advocate Council member to shed light on the importance of maternal health. She leverages her platform as the most decorated track and field Olympian in history to share her story of giving birth to her daughter, born preterm at 32 weeks due to preeclampsia, nearly losing her life. She was the featured speaker in our It Starts With Mom Live event in May 2024 to increase awareness around preeclampsia, and help other moms learn the warning signs and risks of the condition, which affects 1 in 25 pregnancies in the US. today.
Through our It Starts With Mom partnership, March of Dimes, GoldBug, and Felix have come together to help more women in the U.S. access trusted maternal health information to avoid adverse health outcomes, such as those caused by preeclampsia, preterm birth, racial health disparities, and lack of access to prenatal care. By supporting It Starts With Mom, GoldBug is helping March of Dimes equip all moms and moms-to-be with the critical health education and tools they need to navigate pregnancy, childbirth, and beyond.
