GENERAL HELP

Registration:
In order to help us serve you better and for site evaluation purposes registration is required. Registration is free and open to anyone. Complete this one-time process for unlimited access to the information and features on this site.

Setting Up Your Account:
At the top of the right column on the G&YP home page, select Create your account. Setting up your personal account only takes a few minutes. We ask that you create your own password for confidentiality. Once the information is completed, click on the "Submit" button. You may edit and review your account information at any time by simply selecting "My Account" from the top navigation bar, making any necessary changes and then resubmitting your information.

Fields denoted with an * are required fields.

Editing Your Account:
You may edit your account at any time by clicking on the "My Account" tab at the top right of the screen, making any necessary changes and then resubmitting your information.

Logging-in:
Each time you return to the Genetics & Your Practice site you will need to log-in by entering your user name and password in the sign in box at the top of the right column on the home page. Once you have logged in, the last page you visited will be displayed in the welcome box. You can click on this link to return to the place you left off, or navigate to a new section by using the main site navigation.

Forgot Your Password:

If you forget your password, just click the "Forgot Your Password?" link. A dialogue box will appear where you can enter your email address. Type in the email address you used when you created your userid, then click "Submit". We'll send the password on file for your email address.

Logging-out:
At the end of each session, log out of the site by clicking on the "Log Out" button in the upper right corner of the screen. Note: after 1 hour of inactivity you will be automatically logged out and will have to sign back in to continue using the site.

Content Customization:
The content of Genetics & Your Practice is customized by the following patient types: Preconception/Prenatal, Infant/Child, and Adolescent/Adult.

To help deliver information that best meets your needs, please indicate the type of patient that you primarily see when you set up your account. You may change your preferred patient type at any time by Editing Your Account.

Note: You will always have the option to view information on other patient types aside from the primary patient type you select when you register. To do this click on the other patient type icons when they appear throughout the site.

Site Organization:
The main content of the site is organized into 3 modules:
Genetic Testing and Screening
Family Health and Social History
Referral to Genetic Services

Each educational module has three sections (Your Practice, Basic Concepts and Process) that health care professionals can use to begin integrating genetics into their patient care. Each module also contains a case study that offers the user the opportunity to put that process into action in a simulated clinical setting.

In addition to the 3 educational modules, there are a number of features that the site offers. Please refer to the Features Help section for more information.

Navigation:
The Home Page is the main entry into the site. You can access the three educational modules of the site, take the self-assessment quiz, find out about CME credit or access any of the other site features. You can return to the home page from any other part of the site by clicking the G&YP HOME link at the top of the left hand column.



Top Navigation Bar
You can use the top navigation bar on any page within the site to access the modules, the edit My Account screen, and the My Links feature by clicking on the appropriate tab.

Left Navigation Column
On all pages, except the home page, there is a left column for navigation. Here you will always find a link to the home page and to many of the site features. In addition, when you are in a module the main topics for that module will be listed. As you get further into the module content, the navigation expands to give you a more detailed list of the pages contained within that section. As you go through the material, you can either click on links when they appear within the main content area or use the left navigation to select the next page or section you want to go to. The left navigation bar will always highlight which module, section and page you are on so that you can quickly reference your location within the site.

The bottom portion of the left navigation column contains links to the following site features that are described further in the "Help Using G&YP Features" section below:

Throughout this site we have provided tools (checklists, talking points, key issues for health care providers, forms, etc.) that we have made available for download in pdf format. FELSI
This section is an index of topics related to Financial, Ethical, Legal, and Social Issues that are presented throughout the site. It is organized by topic (i.e., confidentiality, discrimination). Within each of these topic areas you will find links to the relevant information in each module. This FELSI index has been customized according to your preferred patient type. To view FELSI links to other patient types, select the appropriate patient type icon at the bottom of the FELSI page.

Whenever you see this icon embedded within the content of Genetics & Your Practice this identifies financial, ethical, legal and social issues that are being addressed.

My Links
With My Links you can easily create your own list of favorite hot links. My Links lets you select and add often-used links at any time and delete them when you want. It’s a great way to help you manage information and access popular resources with just a couple of quick clicks. Links are divided into two lists in the My Links window, links to content within G&YP (internal links) and links to resources outside of G&YP (external links).

To view your links:    
Click on the My Links button on the top navigation bar.

Add A Link:
To add a direct link to any "external site" mentioned in G&YP click on the icon within the content, found next to the name or URL of that site. A link to that page will be automatically added to your external links list in My Links

To add a direct link to any the page "within G&YP" that you are currently viewing, click on in the upper right corner of the page. A link to that page will be automatically added to your internal links list in My Links.

Delete A Link:
Click the checkbox next to the link in your My Links list you would like to remove and click "Remove selected links".

Self Assessment Quiz
A self assessment quiz is provided so you can gauge your level of knowledge in certain areas related to Genetics & Your Practice. The Self Assessment Quiz is only accessible from the home page under the features section on the right side of the screen or from the link provided in the introductory text.

The quiz consists of 15 questions, 5 questions for each of the main topics covered in Genetics & Your Practice. After you have taken the quiz, review your answers and the feedback provided to determine which module to begin with first.

Search
To search the content of this site, enter specific words or phrases into the search box at the upper-left corner of every page and then click Go. Put phrases in quotes.

For example, entering: checklist for referral will find all pages that contain the three words checklist, for and referral, in any order, anywhere on the page.

Entering: "checklist for referral" will find only pages that contain the complete phrase checklist for referral.

Timing Out:
The site is programmed to automatically log users out if they are logged in but have been inactive on the site for one hour. If you are in a section and then get called away for a significant period of time, when you return to your computer and select a new page, you may be asked to log back in. Simply re-enter your user name and password on the home page in the log-in box. When you have logged back in, your last visited page will be listed in the log-in box so you can return to where you left off.
