2009 March of Dimes ~ Hawaii Chapter Governors' Ball
Sheraton Waikiki Hotel & Resort

The March of Dimes was founded in 1938 by President Franklin Roosevelt to fight the crippling disease
of polio. More than 6,000 fundraisers across the country, including those held by Hawaii’s Territorial
Governors led to the development of the Salk vaccine that vanquished the scourge of polio from the
United States. The March of Dimes then boldly expanded its mission to improve the lives of all newborns.

This year, the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Distinguished Community Service Award honors
an outstanding local citizen and/or company in recognition of their outstanding
commitment to our island community.
