Youth: Chain Reaction
|
|
Our Chain Reaction Youth Leadership Program provides school-based teens with meaningful learning experiences while teaching the importance of community service. This volunteer force helps the March of Dimes in its efforts to save babies through education and advocacy. These teens will help lead the Foundation into the future as they learn that they play a vital role in giving every baby a healthy start in life.
Chain Reaction objectives:
- To provide a leadership development opportunity for the students.
- To educate young people about healthy behaviors and lifestyle choices that will impact the rest of their lives.
- To increase awareness of, and raise funds for, the March of Dimes and its Campaign for Healthier Babies.
Chain Reaction accomplishes these objectives by:
- Providing comprehensive education about the mission and programs of the March of Dimes to high school students.
- Preparing Council members to speak to junior and senior high school students about the connection between good health habits in the teen years and healthy childbearing in the adult years, and about the risks of teenage pregnancy.
Providing Council members with opportunities to organize events and conferences such as:
- Community-wide health conferences for high school students that focus on adolescent health issues.
- Health fairs in the schools.
- Community service projects.
