Chicago - Parents of premature babies now have a place to share their experiences and insights with a new website created by the March of Dimes. At www.shareyourstory.org or www.marchofdimes.com/share, parents can share stories, participate in online discussions and connect with other families for emotional support.
The special “Parent to Parent” section offers information on caring for a premature baby and lists various topics from medical conditions to feeding and development. Message boards are available for parents that have spent time in a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) to ask questions and give advice for ways to cope after having a premature baby.
Registration is available to become a member of the website to receive online newsletters and updates through e-mail. Members also have the option of creating a profile with pictures and are able to contact other members of the website. The “Get Involved” link includes ways to get involved with the March of Dimes and other volunteer opportunities.
The March of Dimes is a national voluntary health agency whose mission is to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality. Founded in 1938, the March of Dimes funds programs of research, community services, education, and advocacy to save babies and in 2003 launched a campaign to address the increasing rate of premature birth.
