    Community Awards
We are pleased to release a Request for Application (RFA) for our 2014 Community Awards (requests up to $2,658 will be accepted).

The goal of the Community Awards program is to identify and fund community-based programs addressing the health concerns of pregnant women and infants in the state of Illinois. Desired applicants include community-based programs that address interconception health and health care needs with special consideration to programs addressing health disparities in their communities. Interconception care focuses on the period of time between pregnancies.

Funding for Community Awards may be granted up to $2,658. Community Awards may support activities such as: purchase and distribution of March of Dimes health education materials, implementation of March of Dimes community programs (e.g., Stork's Nest and Becoming a Mom/Comenzando Bien) or a conference for health professionals. To view our product catalog, visit marchofdimes.org/catalog.

Please click here to access the application.

Community Awards Timeline (Community Awards are for one year only):

    • Deadline extended: August 29, 2014 - Applications are due to March of Dimes
    • October 27, 2014 - Award letters are sent to recipients
    • November 1, 2014 - October 31, 2015 - Funding year cycle

    *Please Note:

For answers to questions about 2014 grant submissions, please contact Priscilla Williams, Associate Director of Program Services.

Proposals will be reviewed by a multi-disciplinary Program Services Committee.

In order to be eligible to receive a March of Dimes Illinois Chapter grant, an organization must be an incorporated not-for-profit 501(c)(3), a for profit organization or government agency. The March of Dimes does not award grants to individuals. Applicants must disclose any conflict of interest due to representation by their organization on the chapter's Program Services Committee or the Chapter or Division Board of Directors.

Becoming a Mom/Comenzando Bien Evaluator RFA

We are seeking a program evaluator to work with Chapter staff to evaluate and analyze the impact of the March of Dimes investment in Becoming a Mom/Comenzando Bien including participants’ change in knowledge and birth outcomes. Evaluators will be responsible for working directly with sites to collect and analyze participant pre- and post-curriculum surveys and birth outcomes data. Evaluators must submit a mid-year and annual report to the March of Dimes for every year they are funded.

Proposals should be no longer that two pages and include a two-year timeline, with a breakdown of costs and deliverables for each year, providing specific dates of when mid-year and annual reports will be submitted. Please note that the 2014 funding period is September 1, 2014 through August 31, 2015. Please send proposals to Priscilla Williams, Associate Director of Program Services, at PWilliams@marchofdimes.org. Proposals should be submitted no later than 12 p.m. on Friday, July 18, 2014.

    Illinois Chapter Strategic Mission Investment

The Illinois Chapter Community Grants Program is designed to invest in priority projects that advance the March of Dimes mission, support national and state objectives, and further our strategic goal of reducing disparities in birth outcomes.

We award grants based on a number of criteria, including the group or organization’s ability to accomplish its goals, as well as the potential impact a project will have in helping us prevent premature births, birth defects and infant mortality.

As part of our Chapter Strategic Mission Investment Plan (2013-2015), the Illinois Chapter is making a three-year commitment to invest community grant funds to implement the March of Dimes prenatal education curriculum Becoming a Mom/Comenzando Bien in 14 community-based sites across Illinois.  Each site will be funded for up to two years each.

The goals of this curriculum are 1) to teach women about having a healthy pregnancy, 2) to create a supportive environment that promotes healthy behaviors, and 3) to help participants to overcome barriers to care and become assertive and informed consumers of prenatal care services.
