Understanding the Challenges of Preterm Birth
The Nurses Symposium to be conducted on November 17th at the Kathryn Weil Center for Education in Lafayette is for nurses and allied health professionals engaged in perinatal and pediatric practice. The setting could be within a hospital, hospital system, clinic and physician's office such as pediatrics, neonatology, and general practice.
The objectives of the Symposium is to give participants the knowledge to:
- Discuss current trends in induction and cesarean rates in the United States;
- Define the ACOG Committee Opinion regarding elective inductions and cesarean sections before 39 weeks gestation;
- Identify the implications for mother and baby of scheduled delivery before 39 weeks gestation;
- Identify late preterm infant morbidities;
- Discuss challenges in breastfeeding late preterm infant;
- Identify gaps in breastfeeding clinical practice;
- Discuss strategies that promote breastfeeding among late preterm infants;
- Identify the challenges to identifying and treating Perinatal Mood Disorder and how to assess and treat them;
- Assess prenatal and postpartum risk factors.
