Ambassador Program in Indiana

Purpose of the Ambassador Family

Ambassador children and their families bring a face to the mission of the March of Dimes for your co-workers, friends and sponsors.  An Ambassador family can tell the story of how their lives have been touched by the March of Dimes.  Then people can hear and see the connection between their efforts, the well being of the child standing in front of them, and the health of thousands of other children across the country.

Qualifications Ambassador Family

At birth, the child experienced one of the following conditions:
• Suffered from respiratory distress syndrome and received surfactant therapy
• Suffered from persistent pulmonary hypertension and received nitric oxide therapy
• Was born prematurely or at a low birth weight (a birthweight of less than 5 pounds,
       8 ounces)
• Was in a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU)
• Was diagnosed with phenylketonuria (PKU) and treated accordingly
OR
• The child was born healthy as a result of the mother taking folic acid, and the parents had a previous child with a neural tube defect, such as spina bifida.
OR
• The child was born healthy and the parents can explain why their healthy pregnancy was served by the March of Dimes.

What an Ambassador family does:

• Tell their story at March of Dimes events.
• Include your story and picture in communications, i.e., newsletters, payroll stuffers, bulletin boards, emails, etc.
• Visit with existing and potential sponsors and volunteers.
• Serve on Indiana Chapter committees.
• Act as spokesperson for March of Dimes publicity efforts in the media.
• Advocate for the March of Dimes and the issues that are important to babies and families.
