Indiana Advocacy Issues and Priorities
Indiana Advocacy Issues:
  • Expanding access to prenatal care through increasing Medicaid coverage for pregnant women at 200% of poverty.
  • Leading an effort to secure legislation which would require the Indiana State Department of Health to conduct a needs assessment related to treatment resources for substance use during pregnancy.
  • Advocating to add the test for Cystic Fibrosis to the panel of required newborn screening tests.

National Advocacy Issues:

  • Federal legislation (the PREEMIE Act) has been introduced to increase funding for research on the causes of prematurity. (Senator Lugar is a co-sponsor)
  • Federal legislation (Prevent Prematurity and Improve Child Health Act) has been introduced to expand access to prenatal care for low-income women. (Senator Lugar and Senator Blanche Lincoln are sponsors).
