| FedEx, Circle K, Kmart, Farmers Insurance, Cinergy, Famous Footwear, KinderCare and more form WalkAmerica teams statewide to take part in local events.
(Indianapolis, IN, February 1, 2005)— Statewide corporations and organizations are joining the March of Dimes fight to save babies’ lives by taking part in WalkAmerica at one or all of 48 WalkAmerica sites across Indiana this spring.
“The Indiana Chapter is thankful these community minded corporations and organizations are involved in our fight against prematurity,” says Janie Sue Dubbs, State Director of Corporate Development and WalkAmerica. “We are successful in our mission because they are successful in their support of the March of Dimes. WalkAmerica takes place in 49 communities in Indiana. These communities are where their employees live and work and where their customers live and work. Taking part in WalkAmerica gives them the chance to give back to that community while supporting the statewide and national effort to help save babies’ lives.”
Some of the corporations and organizations participating in WalkAmerica in many sites across Indiana include:
- Cinergy/PSI
- FedEx
- Kmart
- Mead Johnson Nutritionals
- Farmers Insurance

Every year nearly half a million babies, or one in eight, are born too early and the rate is rising. Since 1981, the rate of premature birth in the U.S. has increased 29 percent. In half of these births, the cause is unknown. Prematurity is the leading cause of infant death in this country, and for those who survive, it could mean living with lifelong disabilities. Prematurity is a common, serious and costly problem that affects everyone. No one knows all the causes, anyone’s baby could be next. WalkAmerica funds research to find the causes of prematurity and what can be done to prevent it.
